Nowdays carrying less also means faster scans at the airport security lines. When talking with some of the TSA folks, they broadly hinted that it’s those balls of wires that force the folks at the x-ray machine to jog your bag back and forth over and over again. It’s just too easy to hide contraband in those balls so they slow WAY down when they find those. Your defense is to go with a combo power unit like those from iGo. Now I’ll admit that I can’t….Apple is being crabby about licensing the magsafe power tips on the new macbooks, so for now I’m out of luck. However, if you’re running a new netbook or a PC notebook, then you really ought to consider the iGo product line.
In fact, iGo has sized their universal power supplies to fit all kinds of product segments: Like smaller units for iPods, digital cameras and medium unit for netbooks, dvd players, and then larger units for big laptops with accessory ports for iPods, and such.
Another lesser known fact is that the iGo adapters are potentially less expensive than the OEM power adapters. In the case of my old IBM Thinkpad the iGO replacement was almost the same price, but I got a little accessory charger for my iPod in the deal. It also came in a nice zippered pouch and let me lose three additional power supplies on my travels. They also have a little doodad that takes a pair of AA batteries and allows you to charge your phone or iPod from those using the same accessory tips.
Oh and I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that while you can certainly visit your local Fry’s Electronics (if you’re lucky enough to have one) you can also get these at just about any Radio Shack.

I totally agree about the igo line, slick and cheap. Actually, I am waiting for them to make available their next power strip line, that stops vampire energy draining. Really eco-friendly; imagine the power savings, a conservative approx. 100W every night/every household/just this country to start with. Imagine the unburned fossil fuel, a simple such device enables.
I already do it manually, but an iGo strip with an easy control, I would buy it anytime.
