David SparkVIDEO: Interop_NY: Clay Shirky on the architecture of filters to manage information
After his keynote address, I spoke with Clay Shirky, author of “Here Comes Everybody” about his fantastic presentation at Interop_NY about when people keep obsessing over information overload. Shirky says the story of information overload will never end. What you need to do is look at the filters and if you feel inundated, see what filters are breaking down. I asked him about how he’s dealing with his filters today. He breaks it down to look at process flow of other content and also inbound communications. His number one issue is occupational spam. He points out it’s easier to ask a question than it is to answer one, and once you ask a question to a group, you actually increase the workload for the group.
Please read my article on Shirky’s presentation, “Information overload is an old issue, Clay Shirky says you need to rethink and redefine your filters.”
